Beals Project: More Cow Bells!
I just look at this Entry and the transformation to me is shocking. How it manages to feel so open and airy without actually getting bigger. Yes we opened the door to the Living Room on the left and yes we widened the opening at the back so now you can see into the new Kitchen. All those things help. My vote to paint the stairs blue – I’d go ahead and say that was a fantastic decision if I do say so myself. Really freshens up the space! But that’s not what we’re talking about, we’re talking about cow bells. It might be my favorite ‘art’ moment in the house. I didn’t like the geometry of a bunch of frames up the wall and I felt like we needed something on the stairs. The property was a dairy farm back in the day so the nod to the history I thought was a good one. And this idea gave Jon things to hunt for, which was fun to go on the hunt!
They also do something magical – in the nice weather with the door open they move. The light streams through an upper window and they move just a bit in the breeze and make subtle noises. It’s really special, I wish I captured some sound!
The hanging? That was fun. Again I get to be creative director and then our team of Jon, Harley, Scott and Emily get to work attaching the twine and bells. Scotts up there on the 2nd floor landing figuring out how to get a ladder set just right so no one crashes to the floor. Fun fun for him! Then we get them up and start messing with heights and spacing. Takes a little bit of time, a little higher here, a little lower there … and then some more of that ….
The progress of this space is pretty exciting to track. Even just how improved the space was with stripping all the wallpaper and ripping the carpet off the steps.
I said wallpaper, right? I mean check this out. A lovely soft floral – ha! Combined with the yellow painted floor – just wow.
We discovered even more wallpaper below the floral wallpaper. I love finding little treasures like this.
